In June the Underground Facilities Damage Prevention Board (UFDPB) asked for and received comments regarding the Rules by which it was to operate within, as required by the Secretary of State.  One of those “rules” required the establishment of rules and limits for “Routine Maintenance” within Public Rights of Way by those who are authorized to work there.  After receiving the comments for that initial request, the UFDPB voted to accept all of the original rules with the exception of the Public Right of Way rule.  A motion was made and passed to send that rule back to the Rules committee for another look because of the concern that some had for that rule allowing up to 12 inches of excavation under certain circumstances and conditions.  The MS811 board feels that the Rules Committee did an adequate job in addressing these concerns.  Your comments to this rewrite of the Public Right of Way “Routine Maintenance” definition can be made by:

The Board shall conduct a hearing to consider written comments and to consider final adoption of the Proposed Rule on August 23, 2017 at 1:30 pm. at the offices of Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi, 665 Highland Colony Parkway, Ridgeland, Mississippi. Written comments must be received by the Board no later than August 22, 2017 by 9:00 am. Written comments shall be available for public inspection at www.msdamageprevention.com no later than 1:00 pm on August 22, 2017.

Any interested person desiring to make oral remarks on the Proposed Rule during the August 23, 2017 Board meeting, shall notify the Board prior to the meeting, using the contact information above.
